On December 5th 1492, when Christopher Columbus first stepped ashore on the Island of Hispaniola he proclaimed it to be "the fairest land under heaven". With it's breezy, Palm tree lined, white sandy beaches, this statement is as true today as it was over 500 years ago.
But there is so much more to the Dominican Republic than just sun, sand and merengue. The Dominican Republic has a culture as diverse as the landscape itself. From the hustle and bustle of the city of Santo Domingo in the south to the laid back beach life of the north coast. The official language is Spanish but it is very common to find the local population speaking English, German and French.
The island is the most
visited destination in the caribbean and is fast becoming the trade mark for
the region (over 3.5 million visitors in 2004). The north coast of the island
has miles of white sandy beaches and is served by one of the largest airports
in the caribbean, Gregorio Luperon airport in Puerto Plata (POP) and is well
connected to all the north coast cities and tourist resorts.

can also enjoy horse riding, kite surfing and diving on the amazing coral
reefs and many other leisure activities.

of first class health care, excelent tele-communications and international
banking.
As the first university in the americas is in the Dominican Republic the standard of education is extremely high and the crime rate is very low, a fact that the Dominicans are very proud of.
